SPOILER WARNING!!!! PLEASE WATCH ALL OF DEAL OR NO DEAL ISLAND EPISODE 5 BEFORE READING!!! ARTICLE IS NOT CHRONOLOGICAL WITH SHOW.
In the beginning parts of the episode we get a little bit of the aftermath from Dixon’s face-off with the banker and the family feeling like they are in power. I don’t think this is good for anybody in the family because they are such an obvious alliance, the only alliance we know of from what we see on episodes, and everyone has their eyes set on putting one of the family members out of this game.
We also get a little bit more background into Phillips' life and his purpose for going to the island. Every week the audience gets more and more understanding about Phillip from his gameplay and confessions. With this I have to think Phillip is one of the front runners to win this season. On top of that, Phillip’s positioning in the game is great, being that he is close enough to Parvati and Dave to keep him in good graces of the family without actually having to bear the weight of everyone going after the family alliance members. All of this is, however, building to the eventual feud between Parvati and Phillip where they both know the two of them cannot play together long term.
The Challenge
The challenge was another example of the ongoing battle for Parvati and Phillip to remain aligned in the game when they both lied about what their prize was on level four. Even though they both lied, Phillip was really upset as Parvati had a larger lie. I don’t think this will have an immediate impact, but there is no doubt Parvati and Phillip are trying to make it work but it just won’t.
The other pair that couldn’t see eye to eye was Dr. Will and Dickson. Dr. Will, knowing he’s close to the bottom of the game and wanting to have power, chose Dickson as his partner in an attempt to ensure he lost the challenge and could play the banker. While the antics Dr. Will may seem benign to the audience because we knew his plans, but to the other players, him walking off set and throwing a tantrum does lead to confusion and distracts from the fact that Dr. Will probably wanted to lose and face the banker. This is great gameplay from Dr. Will and it’s done in a way only he can do it.
Catching Weasels
When the challenge is over, Alexis ends up with the highest briefcase and will decide who faces the banker. Alexis’ first challenge win also comes the audiences first chance to see how she handles power in the game.
Before that, Dr. Will really wants to make sure everyone knows Dickson is a weasel during dinner. Watching this gave me the vibe that when Dr. Will returned after he left the crew at the challenge, nobody cared about the whole scene he put on, thus leading Dr. Will explains some sort of trap he caught Dickson in. All things considered, Dr. Will is still trying to grab attention as much as he can because his goal is to play the banker and make a move, which he did succeed at. Making whatever move Dr. Will made the correct one, at least in the short term.
Before Dr. Will was granted the opportunity to face the banker, Alexis showed that she understood how much power she had in choosing who faced the banker by negotiating with Dr. Will and making sure that she could do everything to keep CK safe from elimination. A lot of actually convincing Dr. Will actually came from Seychelle. When Dr. Will didn’t seem convinced to not target CK, Seychelle jumps in and says “there’s a way that we can dismantle the family.” A big move is much more Dr. Wills love language more than any type of good will conversation is.
This new-found target does lead to an uncovering of the positioning within the family. Dr. Will pretty much tells us that Dickson is just the goat, waiting to be sacrificed after he’s seen all of the family members out. Phillip has a confessional where you can feel him emotionally detaching from his relationship with Parvati as he’s ready to do his Paul Bunyan cosplay onto the family alliance, sourcing her lying as a domino for other red flags. Then there’s Dave. Cool dad of the year seems to have no target, no major threat to his game whatsoever. It’s very possible he ends up in the best spot out of the rest of the family members, yet all four are on the bottom heading into Dr. Wills debut against the banker.
The Banker
Dr. Will's antics were top tier television during his first time against the banker. Hitting the button early, then telling the HOST OF THE SHOW the rules had me rolling. There’s nobody quite like Dr. Will. The button strategy, all jokes aside, was extremely useful, if Dr. Will was unsure who he would get rid of if he won. As soon as he acted like he hit the button, all members of the family alliance, especially Parvati, really showed their disdain for him hitting the button without adding much. It was all over their faces and in my opinion Parvati should be more careful in general, but it really shows here. I think if Dr. Will had more time to think, he would realize that Parvati will target him first if she ever plays the banker. However, I think it’s too early for Dr. Will to pull out that move. I think his elimination tonight was obviously MG. If it wasn’t obvious to Dr. Will, I think he would have noticed what Parvati was doing and maybe just cut it off there.
The other odd strategy was when Dr. Will went in order while picking numbers for his cases. I will say, I don’t think anybody going in order ruins my enjoyment or the randomness of the Deal or No Deal section of the game. Even though it was funny watching Dr. Will’s face every time he got a high value case. His attitude was almost like he thought he had a full proof strategy, but in the end it’s just as random as picking case three then case seven. It just doesn’t work that way.
Dr. Will does end up making a good deal and sends home MG then has another cringe-bag moment when he says it and then walks off, only to come strutting back in after production tells him to turn around 😂. Love it or hate it, Dr. Will is running DONDI 2.
Thank you for reading. Let me know what you thought of the way Dr. Will picked the cases. Was it boring? Smart? Leave a like if you enjoyed this article and subscribe to the website for weekly Deal or No Deal Island recaps!!!
